I am a fellowship trained specialist foot and ankle surgeon working as a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics at the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. I provide specialized and focused foot and ankle care at the BMI Droitwich Spa hospital and Spire Southbank hospital in the private sector.
I routinely perform corrective surgery for deformities of the forefoot including bunions and hammer toes. For Hallux valgus (bunion) correction, I use Scarf and Akin procedures, which provide versatility and reliability of correction in even severe deformities. Patients are weight bearing on the operated foot immediately in special shoes that are provided. In six weeks, patients are allowed to walk in normal, comfortable shoes. For correction of hammer toe and claw toe deformities, surgery incorporates soft tissue releases and realignment with bony procedures as necessary. I use the latest toe implants to hold toes straight instead of relying on wires sticking out of the ends of toes. This ensures early return to normal and sporting activity following toe surgery.
With longstanding complex deformites of the ankle and heel, the correction often involves restoration of anatomy and function of the limb utilizing fusion (stiffening) procedures at various joint levels. Following such surgery, the foot may not be used for weight bearing for the first six weeks and thereafter, walking is permitted in a protective and supportive boot which may be taken off at night. I use modern arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery for most of my fusion procedures. This ensures early healing and quicker rehabilitation by preserving the soft tissue envelop around the joints involved.
I treat various sporting injuries around the foot and ankle utilizing the latest technological advances to get patients back to their field of action. In ligament injuries of the ankle, I augment anatomical repair of the ligaments with the ‘internal brace’ device to provide early strength and aid quicker rehabilitation.
I use dissolvable sutures for the skin, thus eliminating the discomfort of stitch removal. Surgery on the foot and ankle is usually undertaken under a general anaesthetic supplemented with a nerve block for post-operative pain relief. This ensures early rehabilitation and easier early mobility. Following any surgery, patients are reassured of personal individualized care and attention.
I provide a complete holistic package of care with physiotherapy and orthotic support as required, to get patients back to their normal level of activity as soon as possible.
